Joan Y. Leopold Children's Book Week with Brian Pinkney (Elizabethville Area Library) In-Person
Join us as we welcome award-winning author and illustrator Brian Pinkney to The Library! In his presentations, Brian imparts the influences that have inspired him to create dozens of award-winning children’s books. He motivates audiences to embrace the power of reading and sharing books. Brian ignites the imagination and potential of his listeners by showing them how they can make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others through reading, drawing, and visual literacy. Presentations include storytelling, imagery, drawing demonstrations, humor, and music!

Author/Illustrator Bio: Brian Pinkney (brianpinkney.net) is a New York Times bestselling illustrator who has illustrated numerous books for young readers, including two Caldecott Honor Books. Brian has been awarded the Coretta Scott King Honor Award for illustration on three occasions and the Coretta Scott King medal. He is a five-time NAACP Image Award nominee, the recipient of many American Library Association Notable Book citations, and was acknowledged by the National Council for Teachers of English for his vast contribution to the field of children’s literature. Brian was named among the “25 Most Influential People in Our Children’s Lives” by Children’s Health magazine. He has served as faculty at the School of Visual Arts in the Department of Illustration’s graduate program and is a former chairperson for the Society of Illustrators Original Art Show. Brian is also a writer who has authored several acclaimed picture books based on his own experiences and interests.

This Children’s Book Week Celebration is made possible by the Joan Y. Leopold Endowment Fund. Joan Y. Leopold, a life long resident of Dauphin County, served as a board member of the Dauphin County Library System for more than 20 years. A tireless advocate for both child and adult literacy, her belief that reading opens a world of education and imagination lives on in her family, students and all those she touched through her efforts.
